Black & White version of [link]

I'm new to doing these conversions so any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

I really like the composition but the detail is lost. Sometimes I find that the software that came with the camera is the best for converting to B&W. From there you can edit it anyway you want. I use GIMP or you can HDR the image to really make it pop which is neat in B&W. Plus I shoot with a tripod so I can use a lower ISO to really limit the noise from converting and editing. Keep it up Malcolm. I like this from you.

Thank you for the tips Chris. I did apply a film grain effect to this one but I will keep experimenting with the B & W.

I think you should. John "KKART" had a journal about B&W today oddly enough. Have you checked it out? He had a conversion program on there.

I didn't use channel mixer David.

I went through a long process following a video lesson that I got with a magazine. It used 2 raw conversions, dodging, burning and gradients with a film grain effect.

I like this one Malcolm! :D Even though it is the same photo as the one in color, they both evict different feelings. Very nice! :D
