Description

Yesterday :iconchuckmeister: and I went for a stroll in the Blue Mountains National Park. We did the Valley of the Waters walk.

Don't ask me how far we walked because I have no idea. All I know is that we walked for about 8 hours including down the sides of mountains, through mist and rain, across creeks and streams, through mud, through water, through cobwebs, through bush and back up the mountain.

My thighs have been aching all day, especially going down slopes which means that I have been avoiding the upstairs section of our house most of the day.

This is one of the many beautiful scenes that we were able to photograph on our walk.

This is a really nice stream shot which maks great use of a foregound fern to anchor the composition.

The image has been well exposed and processed to render a very realistic scene. The lack of a human element and the comparitively disordered nature of the shot give a good idea that this area is totally untouched by man.

The composition is good and does a great job of bringing structure to what , in the wrong hands, could have ended up as a disorganised mess.

The still conditions, diffuse light, moisture and polariser(?) really bring out the colour in the foliage. The shutter speed has created a nice texture in the water.

The main log acts as a nice lead-in to tie the two main elements together and I also like the log at the top over the stream although I do feel it should be further from the edge of the frame.

The main way I can see if improving this image is croping the left side a bit. At the moment that large area of shadow is a little dominant and make the image a little too heavy on the left side. Cropping it a little would bring more balance to the shot. I would also crop from the bottom so as to get rid of the rock sticking out the bottom of the frame. This would have the beneficial effect of just focussing on the fern and fall a little more too.
